What is the VEA Representative Council?
The VEA Representative Council is composed of representatives from buildings for general education teachers and from constituency groups for other certificated instructional employees. Members of the VEA Representative Council are directly elected by the VEA members in the building or constituency group that they represent. Only VEA members are eligible to vote in elections for the Representative Council. The terms “building rep” or “constituency rep” are sometimes used colloquially to mean “a member of the VEA Representative Council.” The VEA Representative Council’s duties and operations are outlined in our Governing Documents.
The Representative Council is the pre-eminent governing body, legislative, and policy forming body of VEA, Inc. Powers, duties, and responsibilities not specifically assigned to an officer, the Executive Board, or another governing body of the Association shall be vested in the Representative Council of the Vancouver Education Association, Inc.

Who is on the Representative Council?
VEA Representative Council members are elected to two year terms. An updated list for 2026-27 will be made available in early fall 2026 once Representative Council elections are held within each building and constituency group.
How can I join the Representative Council?
If you believe there is a vacancy on the Representative Council from your site or constituency group, feel free to either check in with one of the other Representative Council members from your site or constituency group, or contact the VEA office directly.
There are many ways to get involved with VEA! Even if joining the Representative Council is not possible at this time, contact the VEA office, let us know your interests, and we’ll find a way for you to get involved.
When does the Representative Council meet?
The Representative Council generally meets monthly from September to June on the first Monday, unless it falls on a scheduled holiday. Meetings start at 5:00pm and typically last until 6:30pm. Some meetings are in-person and others are via videoconference; there are not currently “hybrid” Representative Council meetings. The meeting schedule for the 2026-27 school year is as follows:
